Helping Hands for Snowdonia
The Snowdonia Society, established in 1967, is a member-based charity that works to protect and enhance the beauty and special qualities of Snowdonia and to promote their enjoyment in the interests of all who live in, work in or visit the area both now and in the future. Our work to protect Snowdonia has three main branches: practical conservation, campaigning and education.

WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP
Keeping Snowdonia special is a huge task and needs like-minded organsiations to work together. Our MAD (Make a Difference) Weekend is a weekend-long volunteering event which brings together local and national conservation groups and individuals to really make a difference in Snowdonia.
INVASIVE SPECIES REMOVAL
Society volunteer eradicating Rhodendron ponticum saplings from the forested slopes of Nant Gwynant, Snowdonia. Other invasive species in Snowdonia include Japanese Knotweed and Himalayan Balsam.
FOOTPATH MAINTENANCE
Snowdonia Society volunteers help manage Snowdonia’s footpaths, improving drainage and tackling erosion.
CAMPAIGNS
Special places for people and for nature sometimes need an extra helping hand. The Fairy Glen and Conwy Falls were protected from inappropriate development by campaigning in 2014-16.
EDUCATION
In 2017 the Snowdonia Society launched its Practical Conservation Skills Unit to help volunteers gain accreditation for their volunteer work and take a step towards a career in nature conservation.
PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
The Snowdonia Society owns the Grade II listed building TŷHyll/ The Ugly House which houses a tearoom and honeybee exhibition near Betws-y-coed. The four acres of woodland and stunning wildlife garden are used by the Society to demonstrate pollinator-friendly gardening and to host events throughout the year.
